E-invoicing has become mandatory. Here's how to stay relaxed about it.
Since 1 January 2026, invoices between Belgian VAT-registered businesses must be structured e-invoices, exchanged over the Peppol network. Lumohub sends and receives them for you — a PDF sent by email is no longer enough.
What the law requires
The law of 6 February 2024 makes structured e-invoicing mandatory for B2B transactions between VAT-registered businesses established in Belgium, as of 1 January 2026. “Structured” means a standardised data file (UBL, EN 16931 standard) that software can read — not a PDF, even signed, even sent by email.
The exchange network chosen is Peppol: your invoice leaves your software and lands directly in your client's, with an acknowledgment of receipt. Your suppliers send you theirs the same way — so you also need to be able to receive them.

What Lumohub does for you
📤
Compliant sending in one click
Every invoice exists in two twin formats by default: the PDF for humans, the structured UBL for the network. Peppol sending happens from the same window as email, and the document is refused as long as the invoiced month isn't closed — never a provisional invoice on the network.
📥
Receiving supplier invoices
Invoices your suppliers send you via Peppol land directly in Lumohub, deduplicated, ready to be booked as an expense. You retype nothing.
🧾
The right format, the right wording
UBL compliant with EN 16931: VAT rate locked at issue; intra-EU reverse charge, non-EU services and the VAT exemption scheme each carry your country's legal wording — the same as on the PDF.
🧭
Included in every plan
Peppol sending and receiving are included from the very first plan, each with an annual quota by plan, with no limit on Expert or with the Unlimited Peppol add-on. An invoice received beyond the quota stays listed, locked, until a larger quota covers it.
Frequently asked questions
I mostly invoice consumers or foreign clients — am I concerned?
The 2026 obligation covers invoices between VAT-registered businesses established in Belgium. Your invoices to consumers and foreign clients don't have to go through Peppol — but your Belgian suppliers will be sending you structured e-invoices: being able to receive them remains useful.
Is a PDF sent by email really no longer valid?
Between Belgian VAT-registered businesses, no: since 1 January 2026, only the structured e-invoice counts as an invoice for these transactions. The PDF stays useful as a readable copy — Lumohub always generates both.
Do I have to register somewhere to receive via Peppol?
Your business must be registered on the Peppol network (through an access point) to be reachable. Lumohub relies on a certified access point and guides you through activation from your settings — no technical steps on your side.
