What your accountant actually needs from you (and what wastes their time)

2 min read

An accountant's work has two halves: the one that protects you — filing right, optimising, anticipating — and the one that consists of chasing your documents. You pay for both at the same hourly rate.

What wastes their time

Always the same things, with everyone:

  • Missing receipts. The ticket left in the car, the supplier invoice in a mailbox. Every chased document is a back-and-forth — and a quarter that drags.
  • Re-typing. An invoice sent as a PDF gets re-keyed by hand into their software. Every re-keying is billed time, and a chance for error.
  • Unanswered questions. "That March payment, what is it?" Six months later, nobody remembers.

What changes the game

The opposite logic fits in three habits:

  • One receipt, one reflex. The receipt photographed at the moment of the expense is filed forever; the one kept "for later" is already lost.
  • Structured documents. An invoice in the format their software imports directly — rather than a PDF to re-key — removes the re-typing on both sides.
  • A permanent state of play. If your accountant can consult your figures whenever needed, read-only, collection disappears: only the advice remains.

The right split of roles

A tool does not replace an accountant — it prepares their ground. To the tool: collection, filing, clean formats and up-to-date figures; to the accountant: interpretation, strategy and the responsibility of the return.

That is exactly the split Lumohub organises: your invoices exist by default in the format accounting software imports, your expenses carry their receipts, and your accountant gets a read-only access you open and close freely.
